سنہری جالیوں سے نور چھنتا ہے رسالت کا
یہی عرفان کا ماخذ ، یہی منبع ہدایت کا
ثویبہ نے دیا تھا شوق سے مژدہ ولادت کا
صلہ اُس کو یقیناََ مل گیا تحدیثِ نعمت کا
اُسی کی سمت جاتا ہے ہر اک رستہ سعادت کا
کُھلا ہے کُل جہاں کے واسطے اک باب رحمت کا
شبِ معراج ہو یا ہو کوئی منظر قیامت کا
اُنہی کو تاج سجتا ہے نبوت کی امامت کا
اُنہی کے صحن سے پُھوٹا شجر امن و محبت کا
اُنہی کے گھر سے نکلا ہے علم رسمِ شہادت کا
قیامت تک رہے گا معتبر رستہ شریعت کا
کہ یہ منشور ہے حسن ِ فلاح ِ آدمیت کا
اِدھر نکلے ، اُدھر سے اک اشارہ ہو شفاعت کا
سُن اے عابد ؔ مزا تب ہے ترے اشکِ ندامت کا
Religiosity for Promotion of Behavior: Role of Islamic Worships in Moral Development of Muslim Youth
The question of moral rectitude and upbringing of youth in the current social arena is the contemporary discovery attributed to social and family norms that also undergo change due to social and economic reasons. Consequently, deferring levels of piety become more or less acceptable according to an individual’s surroundings and age. The study was done to determine the association between religiosity and behaviors likely to improve the moral, social and psychological habits of young Muslims. The discussion of the article contextualizes the effects of observing practices of Islam on a larger scale. A sample study of this research can be used as evidence to counter the contemporary environment which inevitably generates contradictions for young people. The contradictions result in uncertainty and materialistic atmosphere which does not cater to their spiritual needs and the requirements to develop as the youth of Ummah. Yet, we cannot stop or avoid the negative channels and their effects prevailing on the internet. We can; however, extend the positive spiritual energy in youth that is only possible through careful observance of religious practices comprising regular prayers, fasting, charity and pilgrimage (Hajj). The current apathy of our youth towards the religious injunctions may be attributed to social and family norms that are in some cases relative to the economic conditions and social backup. This will evaluate and assess the way and means of effective inlaying of moral fields where our young people can improve their moral aptitude and rectitude. The impasse of current moral turpitude can be shattered with the bounding relation of human activity and Islamic ritual.Role of Students’ and Teachers’ Beliefs in English Language Learning at Federal Colleges of Pakistan
Beliefs play a vital role in shaping actions. They not only drive the actions but also help in identifying strategies to practice beliefs. English Language Learning beliefs and strategy use is a relatively unexplored area in Pakistani context. The aim of this study is to investigate Pakistani college students’ and teachers’ beliefs about English language learning, to explore English language learning strategies used by the students and preferred by the teachers and to find out relationship between beliefs and strategy use. 419 college students and 40 teachers participated in the study. A wide range of data collection tools were used, including four Likert-scale questionnaires, comprising different versions for teachers and students respectively, The Individual Background Questionnaire (IBQ), the Beliefs About Language Learning Inventory (BALLI), the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) and Teachers Preferred Strategy Questionnaire (TPSQ). Apart from these questionnaires, other information gathering tools including Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), Open-ended Questions, Interviews and Classroom Observations were also used for collecting qualitative data with a view to imparting more reliability and objectivity to the data used for the study. In this regard, five focus group discussion sessions and 12 classroom observations were conducted. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20 for quantitative date, while the software Nvivo 9 was used for qualitative data analysis. The results largely suggest convergence in teachers’ and students’ beliefs, yet they differ from each other in many respects. The data revealed that metacognitive strategies are most frequently used by Pakistani students, while social strategies are amongst those least preferred. Gender as well as exposure to English is among significant factors in determining the use of these strategies. The study also showed that teachers preferred certain strategies over the others. Most importantly, the study testified that there existed a significant association between beliefs and strategy use. The study has important implications for language teaching, teacher training, syllabus reformation and the examination system. The study recommends that curriculum, teacher training programs and examination system prevalent in colleges of Pakistan be revised keeping in view teachers’ and students’ beliefs towards learning of English in order to improve English language teaching/learning situation in the country.Journals by Discipline
