گزشہ مہینہ بمبئی کے جناب اے۔ اے۔ اے فیضی کی وفات ہوگئی، وہ ۱۹۱۹ء سے دارالمصنفین کے لائف ممبر تھے، اپنی نظروفکر میں جدید کاری اور ترقی پسندی کے باوجود آخر وقت تک علامہ شبلیؒ، مولانا سید سلیمان ندویؒ، دارالمصنفین اور معارف کے بڑے قدردان رہے، بمبئی جب جانے کا اتفاق ہوا تو وہ ایک شفیق بزرگ ہی کی طرح ملے، ان کے مذہبی اور فقہی خیالات کا احتساب تو وہاں ہوگا جہاں اب دائمی طور پر پہنچ گئے ہیں، مگر ان میں بعض شریفانہ خوبیاں تھیں جن کو ان کے معاصر دوست اور ملنے والے مدتوں یاد کریں گے، دعا ہے کہ اﷲ تعالیٰ کی بارگاہ میں ان کی کوئی ادا پسند آجائے جس سے ان کی مغفرت کا سامان ہوجائے، آمین۔ (صباح الدین عبدالرحمن، نومبر ۱۹۸۱ء)

Former Egyptian Muḥaddithīn of the each centuries have played a well-regarded, venerated and esteemed role in services of Ḥadīth and its sciences. Their outstanding contribution in this regard has been appreciated in each century of Islamic history. Those Muḥaddithīn have left valuable work on Ḥadīth and its sciences in their popular and basic sources of Ḥadīth for coming generations. Muḥaddithīn of 20th century were not less than the former in their involvement in the field of Hadith. Their dynamic and marvelous efforts are needed to be unveiled for scholars and students of Ḥadīth. Al-shaykh Abdur Raḥmān al Banna Al sāʻātī is known as one of the prominent Egyptian Muḥaddithīn in 20th century. He made extraordinary efforts in the field of Ḥadīth and its sciences through compiling and writing various remarkable books in this regard. His marvelous work in Alfatḥ Al-Rabbānī li Tartīb Musnad Al-Imām Aḥmad bin Hanbal Al-Shaybānī on Musnad Imām Aḥmad bin Hanbal in its rearranging, categorizing and organizing its Ḥadīth is deserved to be cherished and focused on due to its significance and importance in the field of Ḥadīth. He is the first Muḥaddith who presented the Aḥādīth of Musnad in seven outstanding chapters to facilitate the researchers in their accessing to the main theme of the Musnad. In this paper the life sketch of Al-Shayk Abdur Raḥmān, his scholarly contribution in the field of Ḥadīth and his methodology in his renowned book alfatḥ al-Rabbānī has been discussed and highlighted its valuable aspects.The Use of Portfolio in Assessing Students’ English Writing Skills
This study focuses on the use of pPortfolio as a tool in assessing students' English writing skills in a non-native English language context. The current assessment system in schools does not assess students' on-going development of English writing skills and leads to rote memorization and test anxiety. Portfolios provides the environment to learn without having the fear attached to tests or examination situation, as students get feedback at multiple stages. With that, portfolio assessment meets the purpose of assessment for students' learning. This study applied qualitative research paradigm while adopting an action research model in order to implement portfolio assessment in the school. Purpose sampling was done, with Grade Eight class being the senior most class of the school; and thus, they were more expressive and had better writing skills. Data for the portfolio was collected via students' samples of story writing, self and peer-evaluated work, reflections and teacher's feedback. Other method of extracting data was by interviews, observations and reflective writing. The students' work in their portfolio was analyzed at the end through an assessment rubric. The findings revealed that introducing the students to portfolio assessment increased their knowledge towards producing better work via peer/group learning, and they were able to monitor their own progress via reflections. The students also learnt about different assessment strategies (self and peer assessment) and dealt with the challenges they faced during the process. The implication that resulted from this research was that portfolio development process increased the workload of the students and completion of the portfolios took a lot of time. For that purpose, careful planning of different strategies and materials were modeled. However, the advantages for portfolios are envisaged to be more than the challenges; and thus, portfolios are recommended as a useful learning tool for assessing on-going development of students' English writing skills.Journals by Discipline
