نواب محسن الملک، نواب وقارالملک اور مولانا شبلی کی وفات کے بعد ہماری بزم علم میں ادب صرف ایک چراغ سے روشن تھی، لیکن افسوس کہ ۳؍ جون ۱۹۲۶؁ء کو باد حوادث کے جھونکوں نے اس کو بھی گل کردیا، نواب عمادالملک بہادر مولوی سید حسین بلگرامی کی وفات ایک ایسا جاں گداز حادثہ ہے، جس پر قدیم و جدید دونوں گروہ یکساں رنج و الم کے ساتھ ماتم کریں گے، ایک طرف تو وہ انگریزی زبان کے بہت بڑے عالم اور انشاء پرداز تھے، دوسری طرف قدیم مشرقی علوم و فنون میں بھی مہارت تامہ رکھتے تھے اور ان کے بقا و قیام اور اشاعت میں نہایت دلچسپی اور ہمدردی کے ساتھ ہر ممکن اعانت کے لئے آمادہ رہتے تھے، دائرۃ المعارف، دارالمصنفین، ندوہ، مسلم یونیورسٹی، غرض اس وقت قدیم و جدید علوم و فنون کے جس مرکز قدر ہندوستان میں قائم ہیں سب کے سب ان کی علمی دلچسپی، علمی اعانت اور علمی سرپرستی کے ممنون تھے، اب انکے در و دیوار سے ایک مدت تک ان کے ماتم کی صدائے بازگشت آتی رہے گی کہ:
ہرگز نمیرد آنکہ دلش زندہ شد بعشق
ثبت است بر جریدہ عَالم دوام ما
نواب صاحب مرحوم کا خاندان اودھ کے مشہور مردم خیز قصبہ بلگرام سے تعلق رکھتا ہے، لیکن ان کے دادا ماجد چونکہ اعلیٰ انگریزی سرکاری ملازمت کے سلسلہ سے بہار، بنگال میں رہتے تھے، اس لئے ان کی پیدائش اور ابتدائی نشوونما کا دور بہار اور بنگال میں گزرا، وہ ضلع گیامیں ۱۸۴۴؁ء میں پیدا ہوئے اور چودہ پندرہ سال کی عمر تک خانگی طور سے مقامی علماء سے عربی و فارسی کی تحصیل کی، اس طرح عربی کی متوسطات تک تعلیم کے بعد انگریزی کی طرف توجہ کی، پہلے بھاگلپور میں، پھر پٹنہ میں...

The Role of Ubuntu Ethics in Promoting Citizenship Values: An Investigation into the Foundations of Social Harmony

In the post-industrial revolution world, social change is often studied and understood in the context of change in means of production, mobility, urbanization and change in the constitution of workforce. Role of ethical values is generally confined to personal conduct and manners. Industrial society is supposed to have its own work ethics which may or may not agree with personal ethics and morality. Ethics and morality are generally considered, in the Western thought, as a social construct. Therefore, with the change in means of production or political system, values and morality are also expected to be re-adjusted in order to cope with the changed environment. Sometimes a totally new set of values emerges as a consequence of the change in economic, political, or legal set up. The present research tries to understand the meaning and place of these values in a global socio-cultural framework. Relying essentially on the divine principles of the Qur'ān it makes an effort to understand relevance of these universal and ultimate principles with human conduct and behavior in society.  It indicates that essentially it is the core values, principles, or norms which guide human beings in their interpersonal, social, economic and political matters. Islam being a major civilizing force, culture, and the way of life, provides values which guide both in individual and social matters. The values given by the Qur’ān and the Sunnah are not monopoly of the Muslim. These values are universal and are relevant in a technological society.

Exploring Students Engagement With Methodology During Their M. Ed. Dissertations

This study 'Exploring Students' Engagement with Methodology during their M.Ed. Dissertations' is a qualitative research which aimed to explore the Masters in Education (M.Ed.) students' interactions with their research methodology during their final year research. For gauging students' methodological engagement (ME), the study particularly examined: alignment of research design elements within the paradigm employed; students' description of the research process, how it is was carried out and importantly why it was done in a particular manner; awareness of philosophical and theoretical underpinnings of their chosen methodology and methods; and reflexivity as a focus while writing the dissertation demonstrating critical choices and decisions that student had to make during research process. To generate relevant data, the study employed (a) content analysis (CA) for exploring students' ME as reflected in their dissertations and (b) semi-structured interviews for investigating students' and supervisors' views about students' ME while doing their research and writing their research. The study was conducted in a private educational institution of Pakistan. The sample included 15 qualitative case study researches for CA, 6 supervisors and 6 graduates for interviews. The analysis of the sample dissertations showed that the students' engagement with methodology varied. While majority explained their leaning towards qualitative methodology and case study approach, there was not enough explanation of the rationale behind certain decisions around the research design, data collection methods and analysis strategies in the dissertations; absence of research tool; ethics dealt at institutional requirements only and reflexivity being scarce. The analysis of interview data highlighted various factors which had contributed to students' methodological engagement. For instance, the findings revealed that given the students' educational background, conceptual understanding and English proficiency were the key hindrances for deep ME during dissertation. The study found that these students embarked on their projects with ambiguous research understanding and challenging academic writing skills. In this context, the supervision process embodied faculty supervisors' and students' constant struggle with various aspects of research. Furthermore, their struggle was exacerbated by the institutional timelines, affecting not only student-supervisor interactions but the deep learning from their research experiences. English language unit within the institution, educationally appropriate research content and supervisory dialogues are recommended for addressing students' diverse needs for improved ME in future dissertations.
