جہالت ترقی کی دشمن ہے
جہالت اور اس کے کئی ہم آواز الفاظ جیسے حماقت، عداوت، لعنت ،نفرت ایک سلیم الطبع شخص کے لیے کوئی اہمیت نہیں رکھتے بلکہ کئی اعتبار سے وہ ان سے بیگانہ رہتا ہے۔ ان میں بالخصوص جہالت ایک ایسا لفظ ہے کہ جو اس سے مانوس ہو جائے، جہالت کے پردے کو چاک نہ کرے، جہالت کے درخت کی آبیاری کرتا رہے جہالت کے نخلِ مضر کو خس وخاشاک سے صاف کرتار ہے، جہالت کے ناسور سے علم وحکمت کے نشتر سے پیپ نہ نکالے، اور اس کی بھینٹ چڑھ جائے تو اس کی جسمانی، روحانی ، اقتصادی، معاشی، معاشرتی ہر قسم کی ترقی رک جاتی ہے اور قعرِ مذلّت میں گر کر سسکیاں لے لے کر اپنی زندگی گزار دیتا ہے۔
تاریخ کی ورق گردانی کریں تو یہ بات مترشحّ ہوتی ہے کہ انسان نے جو بھی ترقی کی وہ جہالت کی چادر کوتار تار کر کے کی ہے۔ علم ، واقفیت، آگاہی سے ہی رفعتوں اور بلندیوں پر اپنی کمندیں ڈالی ہیں۔ اور جس نے جہالت کے بستر استراحت پر آرام کیا، جس نے جہالت کی شراب سے اپنے اعضائے جسمانی کو پرسکون رکھنے کی سعی ٔنا تمام کی اس کوزندگی میں کبھی سکون نہ ملا بلکہ در بدر کے دھکے ملے۔

Islamic Approach towards Social Construction: An Analytical Study in the Light of Hazrat Umar Farooq’s (RA) Wisdom and Thought

تعمیرِسماج کا اسلامی منہج : حضرت عمر فاروقؓ کی فکر و بصیرت کی روشنی میں تجزیاتی مطالعہ The modern era is considered as advanced and humanized in terms of materialized advancement only. Today the leading societies of the world have created a self-sufficient religion in the name of humanism and have set standards ignoring Divine guidance. Thus, man has the right to decide the rules and norms of society on his own goodwill. As a result, the breaking of family system, appearance of gay and homosexual relations, etc. Are being considered as legitimate in many countries where religion is no more considered a guiding principle. On the other hand, revealed religions have focus on the development of humanity in terms of both the ethical and materialistic perspectives. Islam as religion has provided a model of such an advancement and social change in history that has proven that Divine guidance is major source for betterment and development of civilization and humanity. This was practically proven in the time of Muslim golden rule in the world. The caliph Umar (R.A) was the man who introduced for the first time, the principles and values, which has changed the Arabs to a civilized and humanized nation. This huge change was made possible in the light of Divine guidance. In this academic article all such norms, values, and principles that were introduced by Sayyīdnā Umar (R.A) which brought a social change in his Era are discussed. Facts have been collected from historic books and presented following the descriptive and analytical method. Although, the information was narrated and scattered in the books, no proper study was introduced where the role of these reforms in the social construction was analyzed. The aim of the study has to investigate the historic facts of social change in the era of the righteous Caliph Sayyidna Umar bin Khattāb and prepare a guideline for the humanity in present era.  

Evaluation of Aquifer System in Quetta Valley Through Geophysical Methods and Groundwater Flow Modeling

The population of Quetta city and surroundings is almost totally dependent upon groundwater, which is abstracted from the aquifer system of the valley through tube wells. Due to overdraft of groundwater the aquifer system is under tremendous stress. The water table is declining continuously at an increasing rate. The average decline in water table in 2007 was about one meter. The situation is quite alarming and points towards the danger of the complete depletion of the aquifer system. To study the problem in-depth, the aquifer system of Quetta valley was evaluated through integrated application of geophysical methods and groundwater flow modeling. Geometry of an aquifer is a prerequisite for groundwater flow modeling, but there was no data available about the depth to bedrock, therefore, electrical resistivity, seismic reflection and gravity methods were employed. GM SYS; a gravity software of Northwest Geophysical Associates, USA was used for modeling of gravity data and the depth to bedrock determined through interpretation of electrical resistivity and seismic reflection data was used as constraint in the modeling. From the results of gravity modeling a map of depth to bedrock was prepared. For groundwater flow modeling Visual MODFLOW of the Waterloo Hydrogeologic Inc., Canada was used. The aquifer system of the valley was simulated by a simplified model consisting only of two layers, the top layer for the unconsolidated and semi-consolidated rocks aquifers and bottom layer for the consolidated rocks aquifers. Data of the depth to bedrock were put into the groundwater flow model as the bottom of the top layer. The model was successfully calibrated against the water table observation data from 1955 to 1995. Calibration was performed under both the steady and transient conditions. Verification of the model was done with the observation data from 1996 to 2007. With the assumption that the natural conditions of recharge and discharge will not change in future, four future scenarios differing only in the abstraction of groundwater were prepared. These scenarios were simulated and predictions by the model were made for the period 2008 to 2030. Results of the study show that groundwater abstraction is too much high in comparison to recharge of the aquifer, therefore negative water balance will continue and that water table will decline necessarily despite of attempting efforts to arrest it. At the most the decline in water table can be slowed down by keeping the groundwater abstraction at the level of 2007.
